Easter....hair, skin, dresses, shoes, eggs, baskets...OH MY!

I must admit that I am feeling really confident about keeping 147 Million Orphans up and running while Gwen is gone. I have my "to do" lists and I am checking things off one by one...SO proud of myself. You see, Gwen is the motor of 147, SHE NEVER TURNS OFF! I, on the other hand, am the artsy one that floats around, enjoys the quiet a little more, and I get things done in a timely manner but not the way Gwen does. She is able to keep her laptop open, refresh it and respond promptly and she just GETS IT DONE....so you get the picture. and BTW Gwen will be landing in Uganda in a few hours !! She will be laying eyes on her little ones for the first time while we are sleeping tonight...WHOOOOOP!

I had my "to do" list yesterday and was checking things off and then it dawned on me...this weekend is EASTER! So, I started calling my girlfriends that have been sent straight from heaven to help me with Josie Love's hair. "hello, do I need to make an appointment for Josie this week? Will they be booked? do you guys do this months in advance?!?"

you see, i have learned that is is SIGNIFICANT to keep the hair fixed and the skin
moisturized. It ain't nothin for an african american woman to walk up to me in Target
and give me pointers on what type of lotion to use or what type of hair product to
buy. the first thing that she does is feel Josie's hair and then starts educating....! In the beginning, when I first brought Joshua home I welcomed all of the advice that I could get. (and still do!) But with Josie Love, the Lord has given me "hair angels" to walk me through the gobs and gobs of hair that the child has. Sundays are special days. One must
have the hair smoothed down and skin shining. MANY a Sunday I have gone back AFTER Mike has already applied the lotion and smear on more....ask him! He laughs at me all of the time. This weekend is EASTER...EVEN MORE IMPORTANT.

Janetta, asked me what I wanted her hair to look like and I remembered Regan's (her little girls hair) a few months back and told her that that is how I wanted it and she said "girl, I can do that for you! There's no reason to pay to have that done." So, today we had "hair day" for Josie Love. Get this....I don't have to touch her hair for 2 weeks! AND, she didn't even put bands at the bottom of her twists and it will stay in! HOW IN THE WORLD DOES THAT WORK? Janetta says it will, and she's the "hair angel" so I am goin with it!
after her shampooing

combing out the tangles, Joshua and Regan decided to help...
Doesn't it look like shiny yarn?!?! So cute!

Could little Regan be ANY MORE beautiful?!?!

little sister is so proud! she is testing them out! she stood in front of that mirror and just grinned and grinned!

Thanks to sweet Janetta, I am not overwhelmed by Easter anymore and I can focus on what it is really about! HE HAS RISEN! HE HAS RISEN!! HE HAS RISEN INDEED!

How beautiful! So lucky you have "hair angels". My daughter is bi-racial (I'm black, my husband is white) and I'm still trying to find out what works best for her hair.

Have a blessed Easter!

We have found that 100% unrefined shea butter works the best for un-ashy shiny skin. Because it melts at body temperature it is easy to apply and rub in (no white residue if you put too much on either :) While we have had several A-A people tell us to use vaseline, it clogs our daughter's pores.

Oh and are the twists 2 or 3 strand twists??

I'm laughing Suzanne because I actually made my girls hair appointments a month ago for this week. Vicki Sceptor did two of my girls Tuesday from 10-2. She said she was doing Sunny's girls later that day! I said it was White Mama with Black Girls Hair Day! We kept her busy all day! I even arranged for a Grad student to take our their cornrows last weekend since I was out of town. She did in 4 hours what takes me 8-10 hrs for two heads! These girls have lots of hair. Whew! It was worth every penny I spent. We too are ready for Easter! He is Risen Indeed!

Soooo stinkin' cute! Our daughter is adopted from India, and her dark brown skin has a completely different need for moisture, too. Our agency's in-country coordinator was so sweet to educate us before we left India. "No lotion ever. Oil is veddy, veddy good, though" :-) So, we did a combo of shea butter and coconut oil that got us through the very dry winter. Now that spring has sprung, she's less "ashy" and I can get away with all natural lotions with heavy shea content (Kiss My Face works nicely!).

I only recently discovered you guys (147 mil and Amazima). Holding out on buying our first shirt once we see the short-sleeved spring/summer options!

Also, we're interesting in sponsoring some of the kids in Amazima's program but hadn't heard back from anyone. Likely because Gwen was so close to traveling when I e-mailed last week. I'll sit tight a bit longer, or maybe let me know if there is anyone else local we should contact.

girl, you will do great while Gwen is gone! God doesn't call you to do something without equipping you! Btw, i LOVE josie's hair style...how did she do that and what are those curls called?

Oh I SO understand the blessing of hair angels! I have one that we found just recently...and my daughter is 8! After years of tearful comb-outs and countless bottles of hair goo we have found a precious sister who my daughter LOVES and is actually coming tomorrow to relax O's hair for the first time so she can "strut her stuff" for Easter (Her words, not mine!)
Tell miss Josie she looks like a doll with those twists! I can tell she thinks so!
Happy Resurrection Sunday!
